So it’s the time of the month again. Like all women, I already knew a few days ago “it” was coming because my bra cup size got bigger than the usual, and I was just feeling extra bloated. It was just strange how I started experiencing dysmenorrhea, known as abdominal cramps when I got older like in my 30s!
Here are a few life hacks when handling your own menstrual cramps and other issues that come with your monthly period.
- My ultimate favourite: eat a lot of chocolate. The darker, the better! I actually eat dark chocolate nearly everyday so I was hoping that this creates some sort of “storage”, but apparently it doesn’t. LOL! J Reason is,p we lose an essential element from our bodies which is magnesium each time we have our flows, and the cacao in chocolate help us gain some of it back.
2. My 2nd personal favourite hack: drink at least a bottle of beer! For some reason, the ale flushes out the blood which seems to be stuck up there.
3. Apply warm compress on your tummy or warm up a bottle of water and press on your tummy. This is said to relieve us from abdominal pains even up to an hour.
4. Worst case scenario, I drink Buscopan Venus, but make sure you are well padded! I made the mistake of drinking the med on a light sanitary pad, took a nap, and woke up with a whole lot of mess on my white bed sheets! Argh!
5. Drink more water! This should help with the bloating. (No wonder I am always bloated! Hahaha!)
6. Avoid drinking caffeine, which I know can be tough for coffee addicts like me, but caffeine is said to worsen headaches.

7. Drink a lot of vitamin C, like that extra glass of fresh orange juice because aside from boosting our immune system, it is also said to prevent those awful contractions.
8. If you have a lot of flow happening at night, it will be practical to use maternity pads or even the small sized baby diapers. Better than waking up in a pool of blood! ;-)
As I'm off to pop my cold bottle of beer, let us know if you have other tips to make this monthly female experience better :) Cheers!
