So I did it! I finally had the courage to get embroidered eyebrows 3 days ago.
And I love it!
Not that I needed brows since mine were still pretty ok, but with age, I discovered that I preferred a certain shape more which I'm sure I could live with for the rest of my life (or 1-2 years before it fades, lol!). So, that's the 1st requirement before committing to get the tat. Make sure you decide on something you can wake up to every single day for life, much like a marriage I suppose.
And just like any committed relationship, you have to make time for it! The procedure takes about 2 hours from the moment the artist draws your prospective shape. Have a peg with you so she can have an idea of what you like. (My peg was my own brows! Hahaha!)
So on that rainy Friday afternoon, I went to Strokes by Momoi Supe, without an ounce of makeup yet filled with hopes of better brows :)

Once satisfied with the plans, local anesthesia will be applied over your brow area, and you will wait for about 40 minutes so that the medicine will be completely absorbed by the skin.
I used my 40 minutes chatting with the owner of the place, Momoi Supe. He didn't get to do my brows since he has a normal waiting time of 2 months, and since I just called the night before my appointment, I felt already lucky that his 2nd in command, Keighty, had an opening the next morning. I'm so happy Momoi and I hit it off! Turns out we both went to the University of the Philippines Diliman (there's an instant connection between Iskos), and after learning he took up Interior Design, well, I have to admit that it made me dramatically confident with the results.

During this time, I also called up one of my male besties, fashion icon Frederick Peralta and had my driver pick him up in his place (which was 10 mins away from Strokes Beauty House), because I knew how much he had been planning on having his brows fixed. I wasn't sure though how embroidered tattoo would look like on a man. (Check the results at the end of the post)
When my 40 minutes were up, I finally laid down, closed my eyes and started dreaming of better brows. I felt the sensation of snip snip: strokes of tattoo pen clicking on my skin. But since my pain threshold is super low (like I can't-even-do-RF-that-kind-of-low), I had to take a break and pop a pain reliever. After that though, it was totally pain-free! :)
When I was satisfied with my brow shape, Keighty applied some sort of color all over my brow area and waited a few minutes for it to be absorbed. She cleaned it up afterwards and tadaaaa!

Satisfied with our new brows, Frederick and I paid our bills without regret, and went off to lunch. Thirty minutes after, I asked him if he wasn't feeling anything, and it turns out we were already both feeling some discomfort and pain in the brow area. However, it was tolerable enough that I didn't even have to take any paracetamol and we still lingered on with our coffee.
I'm only my 3rd day so it's still swollen and I'm expecting the brows to be lighter and a bit thinner on the 8th day. But since I learned how many women (mommahs or not) and men (straight or not) are interested in fixing up their eyebrows, I shall have my "eyebrow chronicles" to help you decide if you want to go for it. In only 2 days, without social media and me keeping it on the down low , I already have 7 friends who want me to accompany them at Strokes! hahaha!
Will keep you guys posted!
Love,
Rikki Mathay
